The Minister for Administrative Services, Senator the Rt. Hon. R.G. Withers, announced today that the Government has approved the construction of a Government office building at South Hedland, Western Australia.

Senator Withers said that the building, which would be ready for occupation in about 2 years, would be part of the development of the South Hedland Town Centre. It would provide 750 square metres of modern, air-conditioned space for those departments currently occupying leased space in Port Hedland,

16 Kilometres away.

The building would also provide accommodation for ' the Federal Member for Kalgoorlie as well as conference and amenities areas. When, completed the building would provide considerably improved facilities for members of the public requiring Commonwealth Services. . .

Senator Withers said the grouping of Commonwealth departments in one building in the Town Centre reflected the Government's continuing policy to co-operate in making available to the public centralised Commonwealth services close to State and Local Government services.

. Senator Withers paid tribute to the local member Mr Mick Cotter for his efforts in securing the office building..
