Statement By THE AUSTRALIAN MINISTER FOR AGRICULTURE

CANBERRA

PRESS STATEMENT - TOBACCO MARKETING QUOTA

The Minister for Agriculture, Senator

Ken Wriedt, said today that the Australian

Agricultural Council had decided that the

Australian Tobacco Leaf Marketing Quota for the

1976 selling season would again be 15,422,000 kg.

Senator Wriedt said that Council had

received a unanimous recommendation from the

Australian Tobacco Board on this matter. This,

he said, reflected an atmosphere of improved

co-operation between growers and manufacturers.

Senator Wriedt commented that the

marketing quota was a feature of the Tobacco

Stabilisation Plan which was negotiated in 1973

and took effect in the 1974 selling season. He

said there had been a substantial rise in reserve

prices this year but that sales at auction were

proceeding smoothly.
