. The Minister for Administrative Services, Senator R.G.

Withers, today announced the appointment of Mr K.W. Pearson as

Chief Electoral Officer. Mr Pearson will take up his appointment

on 1 October 1976.

Mr Pearson, 46, is presently First Assistant: Secretary,

Welfare Division of the Department of the Prime Minister and


Senator Withers said Mr Pearson had extensive administrative

experience which fitted him for the post of Chief Electoral Officer.

Mr Pearson joined the Commonwealth Public Service in 1947.

After serving with a variety of departments, Mr Pearson joined the

Prime Minister's Department is. IPf 3~ From 1970 to 1971 he was

Director of the Commonwealth Arserves Office, becoming Assistant

Secretary of the Parliamentary l·rarer of the Prime Minister's .

Department in 1973

While in charge of the. Parliamentary Branch, Mr Pearson

gathered extensive experience in constitutional and legal matters

including considerable contact with the Electoral Office.
