VISIT BY DISTINGUISHED ASIAN ECONOMIST

One of Asia's most distinguished economists, Dr Renoo Suvannasit,

of Thailand, will arrive in Australia on 15 January for a 12-clay visit as

a guest of the Department of Foreign Affairs»

Dr Renoo is Secretary-General of the National Economic Development

Board of Thailand and, as such, has a major role in deciding priorities for

the economic development of his country.

He is also a member of Thailand's National Legislative Assembly

and a former Director of the Budget Bureau of Thailand.

Dr Renoo is interested to see at first hand Australia's industrial

and agricultural progress, especially irrigation schemes. He will also call

on investment, banking and economic planning institutions, including

Commonwealth and State Government Departments and agencies, and will examine

tourist promotion in Australia.

Dr Renoo arrives in Perth on 15 January, and will subsequently

visit Melbourne (17 and 18 January), Cooma (19 January), Canberra (20 to 23

January), Griffith (24 January) and Sydney (25 and 26 January).
