FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

. 1

\28th February j 1973 0

. Press Release Issued by the Hon. Phillip R. Lynch, M.P., ' Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Liberal Party , , spokesman on labor matters .

The Government's dishonesty in its approach to the question {

of four weeks leave for Commonwealth employees cannot be in doubt after the

Prime Minister's performance in- Parliament today.

Mr Whitlam admitted that the policy speech on which the Australian

Labor Party went to the people included an unqualified promise that all

Commonwealth employees would receive four weeks annual leave.

But his Government has instead implemented a policy which restricts

the extra leave to unionists only. It is dishonest to qualify the election

promise in this way because of union pressures since the election.

The Prime Minister has a duty to direct the Minister for Labor

to implement the election promise in the terms in which it was stated.
