STATEMENT BY SENATOR P. E. RAE

OPPOSITION SPOKESMAN ON EDUCATION AND SCIENCE

Repeated assertions that a Liberal - Country Party Government

will cut spending on Education expenditure are part of the Whitlam

Government "dirty tricks" campaign.

I give the unequivocal assurance that a Liberal - Country

Party Government will not reduce the expenditure on Education.

It will increase it. Full details of the policy will be given

in Canberra tomorrow.

The Labor Government has misled by making exaggerated claims

about its own expenditure on Education. A significant percentage

was simply the transfer from grants to the States which was spent

on Education to the Education section of the budget, but were not

increases in Education spending. Now that same Government is

attempting to mislead by false statements in relation to Liberal -

Country Party policy. This is consistent with the "dirty tricks"

attitude exemplified in the Whitlam Government's corrupt attempt

to buy Senator Gair's seat in the Senate. .
