MR BONNBTT TO CHAIR EX-SERVICEMEN1S COMMITTEE

The Leader of the Opposition, Mr Bill Snedden, said today that

he proposed to establish a Liberal Parliamentary Ex-Servicemen's

Committee.

The Committee would maintain close liaison with ex-service

organisations and keep a sharp eye on all developments affecting

the interests and welfare of former servicemen. The Committee

would be particularly concerned with such aspects as pensions

and housing, and would assist in reviewing the relevant policies

of the alternative Liberal/Oountry Party Government.

Mr Snedden said he had appointed Mr R.N. Bonnott as Chairman o:

the Committee. The other Committee members would be appointed

later. .

Mr Bonnett , a former serviceman himself, had a keen appreciation

and understanding of all the issues to be handled by the new

Committee,

At a time when the Government showed little regard for the

strength and morale of the armed services, it was timely to make

sure that the interests of ex-servicemen were properly safeguarded
