COILMOIfffEALTH FORESTRY SCHOLARSHIPS

The Minister for Rational Development (Mr, Swartz) announced today the award of 16 Commonwealth Forestry Scholarships for commencement this year.

The Scholarships, which are awarded competitively, entitle the holders to free university places and living allowances to enable them to undertake study leading to the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Forestry at the Australian National University,

They are tenable at the A.IT.U. for the full course or at a State university for the first year provided it offers subjects acceptable as pre-requisites for the degree.

Congratulating the scholars, Hr. Swartz said:· .

"There is definitely a need for trained m e n : ■ to assist in developing and managing Australian forests and in furthering forestry research. .Forestry offers a useful and interesting professional career in a field uf growing

importance."
