AID TO ATHLETICS

The 1974 Australian track and field championships will be the

first ever held with a strong Australian Government support.

The Minister for Tourism and Recreation, Mr Frank Stewart today

announced a Federal grant of $5,195 towards the expenses of the athletes.

The championships will be held in Melbourne on March 29-30.

A total of 105 senior and junior athletes are expected to

represent all States in the titles.

All of them, with the exception of the host Victorians, will

receive a fare subsidy to Melbourne.

Mr Stewart also announced a grant of $484 to the Australian Polo

Council towards the staging of the 1974 national championships, held in

Adelaide at present.

All States except Western Australia are taking part in the titles.

The grant was towards the fares of the players to travel to
