Six Royal Australian Navy junior officers will

begin a.year’s training with the Royal.New Zealand Navy in

October, the Minister for the Navy, Mr. D.J.- Killen, said

today. ' .

The six acting sub-lieutenants, who have attended

professional courses in the United Kingdom since January this .

year, will return to Australia before joining their N.2. ships.

In New Zealand, the Australians will be given

extensive practical experience and acquire requisite formal

naval qualifications.

. The six Australians are Acting Sub-lieutenants David

Oliver, Wood Street, Manly, NSW (assigned.to the general,purpose

frigate HF.TNZS WAIKATO) 5 Robert G. Thomas, Arthur Street, .

Redcliffe, Qld,, and.Christopher A. Ritchie, Charlton Crescent,

East Reservoir, Vic,, (assigned to the anti-submarine frigate

OTAGO); and. Robert S, Pritchard, Balmoral Road, Port Pirie,

S.A., Errol 1, Morgan, Koonya Street, Chermside, Qld. , and

John R. Lord, Osborne Street, Jcondanna, W.A. (assigned to the

anti-submarine frigate BLACKPOOL),

This is the first time junior officers from the .

Royal Australian Navy have trained with New Zealand fleet units.
