IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RAN PATROL BOAT IN RESCUE

The Australian Navy patrol do at HMA.S AITAPE today picked

up survivors from a wrecked Indonesian vessel aground on a reef

about 120 miles north of Wewak.

The 97 ton motor vessel AVERINS was reported aground

on the reef yesterday and A1TAPE was sent from Manus Island

late yesterday afternoon by the Naval Officer in Charge Papua-

New Guinea, Commander G·. Halley.' ' ■

AITAPE reported today that she had located the wreck

and had embarked the survivors, the crew of 11 men and one

woman. '

AITAPE is expected to rea,cli Wewak about 6 p.m, today,

to land the survivors who are all believed to be Indonesians.
