The Minister for National Development and Energy, Senator the

Honourable Sir John Garrick, today announced that nominations were now being called for the 1982 National Energy Management

Awards. .

The Minister said that Awards would be presented to organisations

which can demonstrate outstanding achievements in energy savings

in 1981/82. There would be six categories of Awards covering

small business, industry, buildings, transport, energy management

services and public· institutions. . . .

The Awards are a major component of the National Industrial

Energy Management Scheme and as such form part of the Government's program to encourage all businesses to use scarce

energy resources more efficiently.

Nominations for the National Energy Management Awards are invited from organisations from the private and public sector including non profit and community based organisations.

Nominations close on 30 September 1982. ■

Senator Garrick said that he was impressed by the achievements

reflected in last year's entries and was hopeful that this

year's entries will be of an equally high standard.

The Minister stated that studies here and overseas had .

indicated that energy savings of up to 30 percent are attainable by organisations which incorporate an energy management program

into their day to day management activities. There were very

real benefits, he said, for both businesses and the nation as

a whole in continually striving to use energy of all forms more

efficiently.
