Mr Hunt s a i d t h e c a t t l e had come o r i g i n a l l y toNew Zealand from Europe and t h e United Kingdom and had a l l u n d er­gone a p e r io d of p r e - e x p o r t i s o l a t i o n and t e s t i n g i n New Zealand p r i o r t o e n t e r i n g A u s t r a l i a » .They would remain a t t h e Torrens I s l a n d s t a t i o n f o r 1*+ days and would be s u b j e c t e d t o f u r t h e r e x a m in a tio n t o en­su re t h a t t h e y were d i s e a s e - f r e e »They were due t o be r e l e a s e d t o t h e i r owners onOctober 1.Mr Hunt s a i d the i m p o r t a t i o n was th e f i r s t i n a program d e s ig n e d by the Commonwealth Government t o g iv e A u s t r a l i a ’ s primary i n d u s t r i e s g r e a t e r a c c e ss t o a w ider range o f g e n e t i c b re e d in g m aterial®E x te n s io n s a t the Torrens I s l a n d q u a r a n t i n e s t a t i o n were completed i n J u l y t h i s year» E x i s t i n g h o r s e f a c i l i t ­i e s had a l s o been upgraded and expanded»Mr Hunt s a id i m p o r t a t i o n s through T orrens I s l a n d would be l i m i t e d t o c o u n t r i e s of low d i s e a s e r is k »

Canada were e x p e c te d t o f o llo w over the n e x t tw elve months»,

w i l l be o f f i c i a l l y opened by t h e M i n i s t e r on a d a t e t o be announced»

This s t a t i o n , which i s c u r r e n t l y under c o n s t r u c t i o n ; ,

c o u n t r i e s of g r e a t e r d i s e a s e r i s k »
