PRESS STATEMENT BY THE COMMONWEALTH MINISTER FOR HEALTH MR RALPH HUNT.

FURTHER GRANT FOR SCHOOL DENTAL SCHEME IN TASMANIA

The Commonwealth Minister for Health, Mr Ralph Hunt .

today announced a grant to Tasmania totalling $606 316 under the Australian School Dental Scheme.

Of this amount $155 605 is for the recurrent costs of the dental therapy training school in Hobart and the balance of

$450 711 is for the recurrent costs of the field service.

The Commonwealth contributes 75% of the recurrent costs of

the training school and 47% of the field service recurrent costs.

The balance is met by the State Government.

Estimated commonwealth expenditure on the Scheme in Tasmania during the 1977/78 financial year is $1.55m. .

The School Dental Scheme aims to improve the dental health of the nation by making fee treatment and dental health education

available to all children under 15 years of age, with initial emphasis on primary school children.
