The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Andrew Peacock, announced today that Thailand's Minister of Interior, Mr Samak Sundaravej, will visit Australia from 19 to 23 September 1977, as a guest of the Australian Government.

. The purpose of the Minister's visit is to hold general discussions with Mr Peacock on matters of mutual interest in the South East Asia region and to discuss various ' aspects of Australia's development assistance program in Thailand, 1 Mr Samak will also meet with the Minister for Construction, ..Mr McLeay, and officials from the Australian Development . Assistance Bureau of the Department of Foreign Affairs, GSlRO and the Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation.

Mr Peacock said that the visit by Mr Samak reflected the close and friendly relations that have existed between Australia and Thailand for many years. The visit would afford an opportunity to reiterate Australia's continuing

friendship and support for Thailand, its growing interests in the development of ASEAN, and the commitment that it has expressed before to work for the stability of the region.

Mr Samak, who will be accompanied by three senior Thai officials involved in the administration of development assistance programs, will visit Canberra, Sydney, and the Snowy Mountains Scheme.
