VISIT TO INDONESIA

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Andrew Peacock, said today that he had accepted the invitation of the Indonesian Foreign Minister, Mr Adam Malik, to visit Indonesia from 13 to 15 April.

The visit, which was foreshadowed at the time of Mr Peacock's informal talks with Mr Malik in Jakarta on 19-20 January, will be his first formal visit to Indonesia as Minister for Foreign Affairs.

"I shall be having discussions with Mr Malik on a wide range of subjects of mutual interest", Mr Peacock said "I shall be especially interested in exchanging further views on the situation in Timor and in discussing regional

developments in the light of the recent ASEAN Summit Conference". '

The Minister said that the visit would provide an opportunity for a further reaffirmation of the importance which the Australian Government attaches to the close and important relationship between Australia and Indonesia.
