APPOINTMENT OF AUSTRALIAN AMBASSADOR

TO GREECE -

The Foreign Minister, Senator Don Willesee, today

announced the appointment of Mr Donald J. Horne, as Australian

Ambassador to Greece.

Mr Horne, at present Minister at the Australian

Embassy in Tokyo will succeed Mr F.B. Hall in Athens.

It will be Mr Horne's first appointment as Ambassador.

Mr Horne, aged 49» is a career officer with the

Department of Foreign Affairs. He was born in Scotland and

educated at Robert Gordon's School, Aberdeen.

After service in the R.N.V.R., including a period ·

in the office of the Naval Attache at the British Embassy in

China, Mr Horne joined the Australian Department of External

Affairs in 1947 and served at Australian diplomatic missions in

Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. He was Counsellor at the Australian

High Commission, Wellington, from 1965 until 1968 and has been

Minister in Tokyo since 1971. Mr Horne is married with

5 children. ■
