INTERNATIONAL TRAINING COURSE - COOPERATIVES

The Department of Foreign Affairs is to conduct its second

International Training Course on the Establishment and Management of

Cooperatives in Rural Areas, in Canberra, starting tomorrow 9 February,

The course will be attended by 18 officials from Cooperatives

in Asia, Africa and the South Pacific,

Establishment of Cooperatives in developing countries is

regarded as a highly effective and important means of helping to raise

income levels of rural populations.

the Cooperative Federation of Australia, and the State Cooperative

Federations of Queensland, N.S.W., Victoria and Western Australia, Also

contributing to the course will be the N.S.W. Credit Union League and

the N.S.W. Registry of Cooperative Societies. .

two weeks in Sydney, and will then make a two-week tour of Cooperatives

in country areas of New South Wales and Victoria. The final week of the

course will be spent in Perth. Through field visits and lecture and

syndicate sessions, members will study the formation, structure and

management of different types of cooperatives, as well as their legal,

financial and marketing arrangements.
