CULTURAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN AUSTRALIA AND

THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Leslie

Bury, M.P., announced today that a Cultural Agreement between the

Republic of Korea and Australia was signed today in Seoul. The

Australian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Mr. A.H. Loomes,

signed on behalf of Australia.

to encourage an exchange of a wide range of cultural activities

between Australia and Korea. It will help to foster knowledge and ยท

understanding between the two countries in the. fields of culture.,

science and technology by visits and exchanges of scholars, students

and research workers as well as by the exchange of films, publications,

art exhibitions and musical and theatrical performances.

Mr. Bury said that the purpose of the Agreement is

Australia and Korea have a close, friendly relationship

not only in a wide range of direct contacts but also as members of the

Asia and Pacific Council (ASPAC) and its Cultural and Social Centre

in Seoul. Mr. Bury said that the signature of the Cultural

Agreement will extend these relations which he felt' sure would develop

still further in the years ahead.
