MINISTER FOR ENVIRONMENT, HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Canberra A.C.T.

The Minister for Environment, Housing and

Community Development, Mr Ray Groom, said last night

that he was investigating complaints that the Next

South .Wales Government was deliberately withholding

Commonwealth Housing Funds. „ .

There is certainly evidence that the funds

are not flowing on to co-operative building societies as quickly as they might.

Last June New South Wales was told the .

Commonwealth would make $103,721.00 available this financial year under the Commonwealth/State Housing

Agreement.

I have been told by the State Minister for

Housing that he will be allocating 30% of that amount

to the Home Purchase Account, for assistance to home . buyers. This should mean about $30 million of

Commonwealth funds should be available for lending by

the co-operative building societies in New South Wales.

Ndw South Wales could be making advances from funds it is presently receiving from the Commonwealth

until it completes its work on the matching program. .

I would be most disturbed if funds Xxrhich

should now be in the hands of New South Wales home

buyers are being deliberately and needlessly delayed;
