The Minister for Employment and Youth Affairs, Mr Ian Viner, today pledged Government' ' support for "Target 300" — a youth employment scheme launched by the Rotary Club of Sydney and co-ordinated by the Youth Job Centre. The scheme, designed to create 300 new jobs for young people by the end of 1979, has been endorsed by Sydney Rotarians as the

President's Special Project for the year.

"Already about 60 vacancies have been positively identified as having resulted from the Club's efforts, Mr Viner said. "In addition an estimated 260 jobs have been provided indirectly". . .

Mr Viner said other Rotary groups as well as several similar Service organizations have requested information on Target 300, and organizers are confident the scheme will spread to other areas of Sydney and New South Wales.

"It's extremely pleasing to see Service clubs such as Rotary recognising youth unemployment as a community, and not purely a government, concern.

"I hope other Service organizations will follow the lead of Sydney Rotary Club and do whatever possible to assist young people find jobs, "Mr Viner added.

The Minister offered the full co-operation of the Commonwealth Employment Service and his Department.
