APPOINTMENT OF A COMMISSIONER OF THE AUSTRA LIA N CO NCILIATIO N AND A R B ITR ATIO N COMMISSION

The Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, Mr Tony Street M.P., announced

today the appointment of Mr Vincent Joseph Connell as a Commissioner of the Australian

Conciliation and Arbitration Commission. The appointment will have effect from

30 May 1977. .

The Minister said that the appointment was made to enable the Commission to cope with

its increased work load.

Mr Connell is the Employee Relations Director of Amoco Australia Ltd., Sydney, and has

had many years of experience in the oil industry. Mr Connell is also a Councillor for the

Employers' Federation of New South Wales and is a member of the advisory Consultative

Committee on Handicapped People to the New South Wales Minister for Youth and

Community Services.

Mr Connell is a member of the Industrial Relations Society and the Australian Institute of

Personnel Management. He lives in Sydney.

The Minister congratulated Mr Connell on his appointment and said that with his extensive

experience and background in the area of industrial relations, Mr Connell was eminently well

qualified to take up the appointment. .
