COM M UNITY YOUTH SUPPORT SCHEME - STATE COMMITTEES

The establishment of State Committees to assist in the administration of the Community Youth Support Scheme (CYSS) was announced today by the Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, the Hon Tony Street MP.

CYSS provides financial assistance to community groups and recognised youth organisations for supportive programmes and services to improve the ability of young people to find employment and to help young unemployed persons maintain a sense of direction arid purpose. To date, some 100 programmes have been approved in which about 14,000 young people are expected to participate. . · · · : · .

'. The State Committees will consider and approve applications for funds under CYSS; They will also be responsible for oversighting the progress of approved projects. ~

The three-member Committees consist of representatives of the Commonwealth and State Governments and an independant chairman appointed by the Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations. The chairmen are associated with community activities in their respective

States. In each case the Commonwealth representative is the State Director of the Department of Employment and Industrial Relations.
