A.C.T. SCHOOL ARRANGEMENTS FOR 1973

The Department of Education today announced school

arrangements for 1973? .

Four new primary schools, and four new pre-schools

will begin taking' pupils in the new school year. They are

the primary and pre-school at Duffy in the district of

Weston Creek, and Weetangera, Holt and Melba in Belconnen.,

. Detailed arrangements are as follows -

Enrolment Date .

Pre-Schools - Enrolments may be made for pre-schools on

Tuesday 30 January and some children will commence attendance

on Wednesday 31 January, according to the group to which they

have been allocated by the pre-school teacher., _ Those children

who had their enrolments confirmed late in 1972 need not be

re-enrolled, . ■ ■ ' ' ' '

Primary Schools - Tuesday; 30 January will be devoted to

internal organisation in A.C.T. government primary schools

and children will not attend school on that day* Most children

will enrol on Wednesday 31 January, including those who will

transfer from their present holding schools to the new schools

at Weetangera, Holt, Melba and Duffy. However all new

enrolments for the four new schools will take place on Thursday

1 February, 1973·

Secondary Schools - Tuesday 30 January will be devoted to

internal organisation* All students enrolling in-forms two

to six should attend on Wednesday 31 January, 1973. First

form enrolments will take place on Thursday 1 February.

Weston Creek

The new primary and pre-school at Duffy will be

available for children from that suburb, Those from Chapman

will attend Rivett Primary and Pre-School.. Chapman Primary

School will open in 1975°

.The Weston Creek High School will enrol students

in forms one to four. Hew fifth form students will attend

Melrose High School and sixth form students Woden Valley High

School.

Belconnen

The new. primary and pre-school at Weetangera will

take enrolments from that suburb and the suburb of Hawker.

The Melba Primary and Pre-school will cater for

enrolments from Melba, Flynn, Charnwood and Evatt*

The primary and pre-school at Holt will be available

for children from that suburb.

Children from Macgregor will attend Latham Primary

and Pre-school. ·

Macgregor, Flynn, and Evatt Primary and Pre-schools

will open in 1974 and Charnwood in 1975.

Belconnen : High School in 1973 will accept

enrolments for forms one to five from the suburbs of Page,

Weetangera, Hawker, Scullin, Holt, Higgins, Latham and

Macgregor* Ginninderra High School which will serve Higgins,

Holt, Latham and Macgregor will open, in 1974.

Canberra High School in 1973 will continue to serve

the whole of the Belconnen area for form six and it will enrol

students for forms one to five from Aranda, Cook, Macquarie^

Melba, Flynn, Charnwood and Evatt. It is expected that students

from Melba, Flynn, Charnwood and Evatt who enrol at Canberra

High School in 1973 will be able to continue attending Canberra

High School until the. high school serving their area is

available. ·

Details of additions and alterations to school bus .

arrangements will be given in the Public Notices Section of

the "Canberra Times" on Saturday January 27 and again on Tuesday

30 January. ·
