The booklet, entitled "Science Apparatus List for Secondary Schools", was the Commonwealth Advisory Committee on Standards for Science Facilities in Independent Secondary Schools.

While aimed primarily as a guide for independent secondary schools the booklet would be of interest to Government school teachers linked with the committee's recently revised publication "The Design of Science Rooms".

A list of equipment which may be shared by a number of laboratories and a further list of safety equipment is also provided.

In the opening pages of the booklet the committee takes the opportunity to remind teachers and school administrators of the need for a positive attitude to safety in science teaching. It makes a strong recommendation to schools to provide its science teaching areas with adequate reference material to enable teachers to deal with .

The freedom now enjoyed by schools to select and develop their own science, courses led to the publication of this booklet.

This development has meant that junior and senior science courses in.secondary schools in the different States now have much in common arid the apparatus required may be covered in one list.

Copies of this publication may be obtained by writing to the Executive Officer, Science Facilities Standards Committee, c/- Department of Education, P.0. Box 826, WODEN, A.C.T. 2606.
