SEMINAR ON YOUTH AND THE ARTS "

An Australian Unesco Seminar, Culture and Counter-Culture -

a^.Seminar on Youth and the Arts will be held at Ursula College,

Australian National University, Canberra from 15 to 19 May. The

Seminar will bring together about one hundred young people active

in the Arts to discuss changing patterns in the presentation.of the

arts in Australia and overseas. Music, drama, the visual arts, film

and television and writing will be represented. . Groups such as

David Ahern's ' Teletdp'a1 and the Australian Performing Group will

take part and' a feature of the Seminar will be the workshop

demonstrations which they will conduct.

One of the plenary sessions likely to create lively discussion

is the session entitled '"Is patronage a blight on experimental art?"

The panel will include representatives of the main funding bodies for

the arts in Australia.

Mr John English,. Director of the Midlands Art Centre,

Birmingham, will attend the Seminar sponsored by Unesco, Paris. A

public lecture will be given by Mr English on the evening of Wednesday,

17 May. ·
