DISPOSAL OF FIXED AMENITIES ASS^IS IN SOUTH VIETNAM

(Statement by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, the Hon. L. H. Barnard,MP)

. Australian fixed amenities assets in Vung Tau

comprising the Badcoe Club, the Kevin Wheatley Stadium,

the Harold Holt Memorial Swimming Pool, two tennis courts

and other recreation facilities have been donated to the

* Republic of Vietnam. .

· The Minister for Defence announced today that,

by agreement with Australia, the amenities assets would be

used as a rest and recreation centre for all ranks of the

Vietnamese forces.

Mr. Barnard added that the amenities, largely

financed by public donations to a Sportsmen's Appeal, had

been used extensively by Australian troops in Vietnam. .
