The Executive Committee of the Commonwealth

Defence Science Organisation met in London last week. . .

. Professor Sir Hermann Bondi, Chief Scientific

Adviser to the Ministry of Defence, . occupied the chair and

the meeting was attended by delegates from Australia, Bangladesh,

Canada, India, Malaysia, Mauritius, New Zealand and Nigeria.

The Committee received reports on the meeting of the

food study group which dealt with "The Role of Technology in

Meeting Defence Feeding Requirements" and on the symposium on

"The Defence Applications of Computers". . .

These conferences were held at the Royal Military

College of Science in the weeks preceding the London meeting

and were attended by government scientists and military

technologists representing those countries who attended the

executive committee meeting and.also Ghana and Tanzania.

A report was also given on the Commonwealth Defence

Conference on Operational Clothing and Combat Equipment held

last year in Ontario, Canada.

The activities of the organisation since the previous

meeting which was held in Australia in May, 1969, were also

reviewed. . · ;

The Committee concluded its meeting by reaffirming

the benefits to be gained by members of the organisation which

was set up to promote the advancement of Defence science

throughout the Commonwealth by the exchange of scientists and

information between countries, arranging joint facilities for

co-operative Commonwealth research, and by encouraging contacts

between scientists.
