The 36th conference of the Military Advisers of the

South-East Asia Treaty Organization will be held in Canberra on

22 and 23 June 1972. '

today that Admiral Sir Victor Smith KBE CB DSC, Military Adviser

for Australia and Chairman of the Australian Chiefs of Staff

Committee, would be the chairman of the conference.

General R.J.H. Webb, CB CBE, Chief of the New Zealand Defence

Staff; General Romeo C. Espino, AFP, Chief of Staff, Armed

Forces of the Philippines; Air Chief Marshal Dawee Chullasapya,

RTAF, Chief of Staff, Supreme Command, Royal Thai Armed Forces;

Admiral of the Fleet Sir Peter Hill-Norton, GCB, Chief of the

Defence Staff United Kingdom; and Admiral John S . McCain, Jr.,

USN, United States Commander in Chief, Pacific.

a year for consultation on the defence of the Treaty Area against

the Communist threat. Their meetings also provide an opportunity

to review and update the work of the SEATO Military Planning
