’ (Statement by the Acting Minister for Defence, ' the Hon. Sir Alan Hulme, KBE, MP)

Rear Admiral B. W. Mussared has been selected for

appointment to the Naval Board as Third Naval Member and Chief

of Naval Technical Services.

’ The Acting Minister for Defence, Sir Alan Hulme,

said today that Rear Admiral Mussared would assume duty in his

new appointment in July.

Rear Admiral B.J. Castles, the present Third Naval

Member would retire, having reached the retiring age for his


Biographical Notes

: Rear Admiral Mussared- graduated from i?he Royal Australian Naval College in 1935 and subsequently completed 3y years further training at the Royal Naval Engineering College in Britain.

. During World War II he served on IIMAS Canberra until she was: sunk during the Solomons Campaign in August 1942, following which he served on other ships in the Indian and Pacific Oceans until the end of the war.

Since World War II he has held a number of senior sea and shore postings connected with his engineering specialisation.

He was promoted to Rear Admiral on March 1, 1971.
