An Australian Army efficer serving in the Middle East

with the United Nations has been promoted to the rank of honorary


The Minister for Defence, Mr Bill Morrison, announced

today that Lieutenant Colonel Keith D.Howard, of Dalkeith, Western

Australia, had been promoted following his appointment as Senior

Staff Officer and Acting Chief of Staff in the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation (UNTSO). He said the promotion had been made on the recommendation of UN authorities. -

Colonel Howard first went to the Middle East with UNTSO in 1967 and is due to complete his service in December next year.
