AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCE EMPLOYMENT STATISTICS SEPTEMBER. 1975

Re-engagement rates for other ranks in the defence forces continued at satisfactory levels during September, according to

figures released today by the Minister for Defence, Mr Bill Morrison. . ? .

The rates for the month were 84 percent for the Air Force, 73 percent for the Army and 58 percent for the Navy - an overall re-engagement rate for the three services of 76 percent.

Mr Morrison said that enlistments during September totalled 466, compared with 693 in August. This decrease in the number of enlistments could be attributed to the fact that Army had now reached its target strength of 31,500.

The figures released by the Defence Minister also showed

that the manpower strength of the Permanent Defence Force at the end of September totalled 69,095. Navy strength was 16,070, Army 31,541 and Air Force 21,484.

Mr Morrison said that male officer resignations for the month totalled 41, 29 of whom were eligible for a pension and who had, in effect, retired early. In the three-month period ending September, 1975 there were 144 male officer resignations, compared with 161 resignations for the same period last year,

representing a drop of 11 percent.
