The Minister for Defence, Mr Bill Morrison, said today

the launching ceremony would be performed at the Cartsburn Dockyard of the Builders, Scotts1 Shipbuilding Company Ltd.

This will be the third occasion that a submarine of the Royal Australian Navy has been launched by a member of the Royal Family. HMAS Otway was launched by Princess Alexandra in 1963.

HMAS Otama is the sixth Oberon class submarine to be built in Scotland for the Royal Australian Navy. Four sister-ships,

Otama will become the first ship to bear this name which is an Australian aboriginal word meaning porpoise or dolphin. When

Otama joins her sister ships Australia will posses six of the most
