NO. 109/75 WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 8, 1975 .


More than 3000 soldiers from four States, backed by Air Force and Navy aircraft, will take part in a major exercise this month at Singleton, NSW.

The Minister for Defence, Mr Bill Morrison, said the exercise* named Iron Man would involve a number of operations and procedures associated with the doctrine of continental defence.

The exercise will be directed by Headquarters 1st Division, based in Brisbane and commanded by Major General R.L. Hughes.

The aim is to exercise the Sydney-based 1st Task Force Soldiers from 67 units from NSW, Qld, SA and WA will take part.

Friendly and enemy air power will be provided by Skyhawks of the Royal Australian Navy and Mirage fighters from 77 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force. RAAF Caribou and C130 Hercules aircraft and Iroquois helicopters will support the exercise.

Exercise Iron Man will be held from October 20 to October 28. ยท
