AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCE EMPLOYMENT STATISTICS

JULY, 1975

Re-engagement rates for other ranks in the defence forces continued at very high levels during July according to

figures released today by the Minister for Defence, Mr Bill Morrison.

The rates for the month were 84 percent for Navy, 77 percent for Army and 87 percent for the Air Force.

Mr Morrison said the high retention rate was an indication of high morale. . It also reflected improvements in conditions of service and standards of living in the defence force*

The figures released by the Defence Minister also showed

that the manpower strength of the Permanent Defence Force rose

by 73 in July to a total of 69,227.

The Navy strength was 16,158; the Army strength was

31,574 and the Air Force strength was 21,495.

Mr Morrison said that male officer resignations for the

month was 67, 58 of whom were eligible for a pension and who had* in^effect, retired early.
