HMAS BRISBANE FOR SOUTH-EAST ASIAN SERVICE

The guided missile destroyer HMAS Brisbane will sail from

Sydney tomorrow for a four month deployment to South-east Asia.

The Minister for Defence, Mr Bill Morrison, said today

HMAS Brisbane would relieve HMAS Derwent in the area and would take

the opportunity to exercise with naval units of other members of the

Five Power Arrangements.

HMAS Brisbane is the first of Australia's Perth class

guided missile destroyers to undertake this type of deployment to

South-east Asia.

While in the region HMAS Brisbane will spend some time

in Singapore and also make goodwill visits to other South-east Asian

ports.
