Download PDFDownload PDF

Following highly successful visits to United States

ports in connection with the American bi-centennial celebrations,

HMAS Hobart is now steaming across the Atlantic en route to

Gibraltar, a 3,500 mile passage with only one refuelling stop,

in the Azores, scheduled.

The guided missile destroyer, commanded by Captain

Peter Sinclair, has travelled more than 14,500 miles since

leaving Sydney on 17 May, 1976, in the course of her round-

the-world voyage code-named "Operation Phineas Fogg".

During her Atlantic crossing the ship will pass the

half way mark of her 109 day circumnavigation voyage.
