SENIOR ARMY APPOINTMENT

The Minister for Defence, Mr'Ian Sinclair,

today announced the appointment of Brigadier K.J. Taylor

as Chief of Army Materiel.

Brigadier Taylor, who is the Commander of

the 5th Military District (Western Australia), will be

promoted major general on May 24 and will take up his

appointment in Canberra on May 28.

Brigadier Taylor replaces Major General

D.F.W. Engel, who will become Deputy Chief of the

General Staff on May 28, replacing Major General P.

Falkland, who is to retire.

BIOGRAPHICAL DETAILS

Brigadier Kenneth Joseph Taylor was born in Perth, Western Australia, on June 15, 1929. He graduated from the Royal Military College, Duntroon in 1950, and received the degree of Bachelor of Science from the University of Western Australia in March, 1951.

As a junior officer, Brigadier Taylor served in a variety of regimental appointments as a signals officer in Korea, Singapore,■and with SEATO in Bangkok. He has also served with Army Office in Canberra and at the Royal Military College, and has studied in the United Kingdom.

He assumed command of the 5th Military District in Western Australia in January, 1980.

Brigadier Taylor is a keen sailor and has taken part in several major yacht races, including the Parmelia race. .
