join with them in Exercise Burring Bar in the Shoalwater

Bay training area from June 1-15.

The exercise was designed to practise individual

companies and then the whole battalion in attack

manoeuvres by day and particularly by night, making extensive

use of armoured personnel carriers (APC s ).

PNGDF soldiers had not previously trained

with APC s . j l j ;

Mr Killen welcomed the PNGDF participation

in the exercise as a practical example of continuing

co-operation between the two countries on defence matters.

"Our defence forces have long and close links

and we intend that this tradition be maintained to mutual

benefit in a wide range of defence co-operation, including

combined exercises >" he said.
