An Iranian naval squadron of three ships will make

the first Australian visit by units of the Imperial Iranian

Navy next week.

The three ships, under the overall command of His

Highness Captain Shahriar Chafik, Deputy Commander of the

Persian Gulf and Oman Sea Fleet, will visit Fremantle from

Monday, February 7, to Monday, February 14.

Flagship of the squadron will be the IIS Artemiz, a

3310 ton Battle Class destroyer, with a complement of 18 officers

and 270 sailors. IIS Artemiz will be commanded by Commander

Nersy Alate. The other units of the squadron will be the IIS

Rostarh (Commander B. Earhangdoust), a 1300 ton frigate, with 15

officers and 155 sailors and the IIS Booshehr (Commander B . Sanet),

a 6000 ton fleet supply ship, with 10 officers and 80 sailors.

His Highness Captain Chafik is the son of Princess

Ashraf, twin sister of the Shah of Iran. .
