AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCE EMPLOYMENT STATISTICS

The Minister for Defence, Mr D.J. Killen, said today that the strength of the Permanent Defence Force at the end of November was 68,718. The strengths of each Service were - Navy 16,094; Army 31,383: and Air Force 21,241.

The Permanent Defence Force

Mr Killen said that enlistments for the month of November totalled 508. Total enlistments for the six months ending November 1976 were 3859 compared with 3181 for the same period·last year.

Of the 508 enlistments there were 361 male general enlistments and 122 female enlistments.

Mr Killen added that the intakes planned for January, which include intakes to colleges for service officer training and apprentice training establishments, will bring the Defence Force strength to its manpower ceiling.

Mr Killen was pleased to see that in November there were again, few male officer resignations. Of the 26 male officers who resigned in November, 16 had completed suf ficient years of service to qualify for a pension.

Of the 499 male other ranks who completed their engagement in November 4u0 , or 80*2 per cent, chose to re-engage for a further term.

The Reserve Forces

At the end of November the number of Reserves with training obligations totalled 22,335.
