THURSDAY, MAY 20, 1976 NO.107/76

An industrial dispute at the Garden Island Naval ,

Dockyard in Sydney has made it necessary to change the program

for three RAN ships scheduled to visit the west coast of the

United States for the bi-centennial celebrations.

The Fleet oiler HMAS SUPPLY, the destroyer HI,IAS VAMPIRE

and the destroyer escort ELIAS STUART had been scheduled to sail

from Sydney on June 2.

' However it has not been possible to complete HMAS

SUPPLY’S refit because of the industrial dispute.

HMAS VAMPIRE and HMAS STUART will now sail on May 31

to enable them to make an additional fuelling stop and still

arrive in the US in time to meet their bi-centennial program.

No decision has yet been made on whether HMAS SUPPLY

will visit the US under a revised program.
