HONORARY PHYSICIAN TO GOVERNOR GENERAL

Air Commodore E.H. Stephenson, OBE, of Canberra, has

been appointed honorary physician to the Governor General,

Sir John Kerr.

Air Commodore Stephenson, 53, is Deputy Director-

General of Air Force Health Services.

He completed his medical studies in England in 1951

after service as a navigator in RAF Bomber Command during World , War II. After a period as a general practitioner he joined the RAAF in 1955.

Air Commodore Stephenson had the un-nerving experience during the war of hanging from a church steeple in

Berlin while British bombs dropped around him. His Lancaster had been shot down during a raid on Berlin on the night of / December 16, 1943, and his parachute harness had snagged the steeple. He spent the remainder of the war as a prisoner.
