WEWSmJEASEWEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 1982 ยท NO. 152/82MULTI-NATION MARITIME EXERCISE STARTS NEXT WEEKA multi-nation maritime exercise involving naval and air units from Australia, New Zealand and Canada, and aircraft from the United Kingdom, will begin next Monday (October 11) in the Tasman Sea and around the coast of New Zealand.. The Minister for Defence, Mr Ian Sinclair,today said that the exercise, Tasmanex 82, would involve three surface ships and two submarines from the RAN, two P3B Orions and four Fill aircraft from the RAAF, three surface units from the RNZN and maritime reconnaissance and strike aircraft from the RNZAJF, four surface ships and maritime reconnaissance aircraft from the Canadian Maritime Forces / and one Nimrod maritime reconnaissance aircraft from the RAF. 'Mr Sinclair said the Australian naval contribution would be HMA Ships Hobart, Perth and Supply, and the Oberon-class submarines Otama and Oxley.Tasmanex would involve a comprehensive series of exercises as the surface group crossed the Tasman, including a simulated maritime war in the vicinity of Lord Howe Island.
