A contract for the conversion to a naval training

ship.of HMAS Jervis Bay, formerly the ANL roll-on-roll-off

motor vessel Australian Trader, has been let to a Sydney

company for approximately $720,000.

. . Announcing this today, the Minister for Defence,

next two weeks and the ship was expected to be ready

for her first training cruise late in January.

Mr Killen said five tenders were received

for the conversion contract.

The Storey & Keers contract for conversion

of HMAS Jervis Bay to her new training role included

some structural alterations. These would provide for

a new navigation training bridge on top of the existing

bridge and the conversion of some cabins into a class

room.
