Fourth "catch" for HMAS Adroit

The RAN patrol boat HMAS Adroit, on patrol

to the north of Arnhem Land, this morning apprehended

her fourth Taiwanese fishing vessel in six and a half

months for allegedly operating inside Australia's

12-mile Declared Fishing Zone. .

Taiwanese fishing vessels since the beginning of the


Shortly after 5 a.m. HMAS Adroit (Lieutenant

G.C. Biscoe) intercepted the wooden-hull gill netter

Tai Yih Shang to the north of Cape Stewart. The Tai

Yih Shang, with a crew of 16, is now being escorted by

Adroit to Darwin, with the expected arrival time being

mid-day on Sunday.

In Darwin the fishing boat will be handed over

to fisheries officials of the Department of Primary

Industry for further investigation.

HMAS Adroit started her tally of "catches"

in January when she apprehended two Taiwanese boats inside

the 12-mile limit. Her third came late last month off

Melville Island.
