Fill 'FALCON1 FOR ROYAL REVIEW

A RAAF Fill aircraft will leave its base at

Amberley, Qld., on Sunday (July 17) to fly to the United

Kingdom for the Queen's Silver Jubilee celebrations.

The supersonic strike aircraft will be

operated by members of No. 6 Squadron, Amberley, and

maintained by members of No. 482 Maintenance Squadron,

also from Amberley, during the overseas visit, which has

been nicknamed 'Royal Falcon'.

The Fill will fly across the Pacific, through

the United States and Canada and across the Atlantic ·

to the RAF Base at Finningley, Yorkshire.

Two crews will share the flying of the Fill

during the 22,000 km trip. They are Wing Commander

Gil Moore, pilot, of Newcastle, NSW, with Squadron Leader

Bob Molony, of Brisbane, as navigator, and Flight

Lieutenant Al Blyth, pilot, of Hervey Bay, Qld., with

Flight Lieutenant Graham Silcock, of Brisbane, as

navigator.

The two aircrew members not operating the Fill

on certain legs of the flight will travel with the

ground crew - 13 members of No. 482 Maintenance Squadron

under Warrant Officer Reg Hague, of Warwick, Qld., -

aboard a RAAF C130 Hercules transport support aircraft.

at Finningley with other aircraft of Commonwealth air

forces for the Royal Review of the RAF·

Wg Cdr Moore, who is commanding officer of

No. 6 Squadron and leader of the RAAF contingent, will

be presented to the Queen during the review.

On July 30 Wg Cdr Moore is scheduled to'fly

a 10-minute aerobatic sequence during a public open day

at Finningley. . v

The Fill will fly to RAF bases at Honington

and Coltishall before returning home via Canada and the

United States. The trans-America route has been chosen

to allow the Fill crews to carry out liaison visits to

Fill bases of the United States Air Force.
