Silver jubilee celebrations by Armed Forces

. More than 160 cities, major country centres and

country towns will be visited by elements of the Armed

Forces as part of the Australian Defence Force Silver

Jubilee celebrations which will continue until early

December. ยท

. The Minister for Defence, Mr D.j. Killen,

announcing the Defence Force participation in the

overall national celebrations, said that most Navy, Army

and Air Force establishments would be involved.

He said that as far as the Services were

concerned, their celebrations began with nation-wide

attention focussed on the colourful massed tri-Service

parade outside Parliament during the Queen's visit to

Canberra in March.

The culmination would be on the week-end of

December 3-4 with Defence Force celebrations staged at

more than 20 major metropolitan and country centres.

Mr Killen said that amongst the number of

functions and displays to be staged, either by individual

Services or by combined groups, would be :

. Massed tri-Service parades at several

centres which would involve more than

20,000 marchers, military vehicles, tanks,

guns and floats.

. RAAF, Navy and Army flypasts over

capital cities and many country ~


. Naval ship visits involving major

fleet units, including at-sea


. Displays by the RAAF Roulettes

aerobatic team.

. Open days at 23 Service establishments.

. Band concerts.

Activities would be well publicised to give

members of the public every opportunity to attend or

view events.
