FREE POSTAGE ON LETTER CLASS MAIL TO AND

FROM SERVICEMEN IN VIETNAM

(Statement by Minister for Defence, Mr. Allen Fairhall)

Free postage on letter class mail from Australian

servicemen in Vietnam to addresses in Australia or mail from

Australia to Australian, servicemen in Viet naan, provided for in

the 1963/69 Budget, will operate from Sunday, 18th September,

1968. ·

Announcing this today, the'Minister for Defence,

Mr. Allen Fairhall, said that this was the earliest practicable

date by which the necessary administrative arrangements could

be completed.

Mr. Fairhall said that free postage would not apply

to parcels, packets and newspapers, which would continue to be

carried at the concessional rates now approved. Free postage

would apply to letters, letter cards, post-cards and voice

tapes. . ■ ■
