INDUSTRIAL· MOBILISATION COURSE IN MELBOURNE

(Statement by the Minister for Defence . the Hon. Allen Fairhall, M.P.)

Some 90 senior representatives of the Armed Forces, State

and Commonwealth Departments and industry, today begin a refresher

course in Melbourne on problems of industrial support of the

defence effort. .

The Minister for Defence, Mr. Allen Fairhall, said that

the two day course would be opened on his behalf by Sir Ian McLennan

Chairman of the Joint War Production Committee.

Those attending had previously attended annual Industrial

Mobilisation Courses in Melbourne during 1962 to 1965. This is the third refresher course to be held in Melbourne. Others held in

Sydney and Canberra have been keenly attended.

Mr. Fairhall said the object of the course was to maintain

close contact between industry and the Services on industrial .

planning to meet current defence needs.

There has been a continuing development in the planning

necessary to meet equipment requirements of the forces.

It was important that all concerned in Australian defence

preparations were aware of the latest economic industrial and other inter-related factors affecting the national security.
